Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

Eighteen-year-old Madeline Whittier enjoys the simple things in life: reading and reviewing her favorite books, playing board games with her mom, and watching movies with her nurse, Carla. Madeline was born with a deadly disease that has left her allergic to everything and unable to leave her house for the last seventeen years, so these small joys are some of the only activities available to her. Madeline is content with life inside her bubble until the day a boy named Olly comes to live next door, and she finds herself taking impossible risks to be part of his world. “I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly,” she predicts. “It is almost certainly going to be a disaster.” Told with engaging humor and powerful insights from a promising new author, Everything, Everything ranks easily among the best young adult debuts I’ve ever read.

This was such a fun concept already, and Nicola told this story with so much heart and care that I was in love after only a few pages. Madeline was so bright and observant, and her unique inside-looking-out perspective was a delight to read. Fans of John Green and Sarah Dessen would adore this fresh new voice. What did I like about this book? Everything, everything.
